Degree Recycled

Although I am an artist, before I was able to fully realize my artist side I first followed the “safe” route. I qualified as an accountant. This involves a significant amount of dedication and studying. As a rough estimate I think 5 years, during this time I kept a box of all my dried out and ran out pens and highlighters. It was actually quite a lot over that period time.

I took all these old dried out and useless pieces of plastic and converted them into lettering on this piece. The “DEGREE” section consists solely of all these pens and highlighters. The colorful outline above and below the letters consists of old and outdated textbook pages that have been stained with water color paint. All of this is mounted on thin wood. This is Degree Recycled and is a small depiction of the amount of waste that is produced just in the act of studying, it would be far more if the food and other living items were included during that time period.
